One of the most important things you need to do when you sell your classic car is to create a compelling ad.
At Dyler, we’re committed to helping you find your classic or modern classic car a new home. By following the guidelines below, you will be able to get the most from your car ad on our site.
Before doing so, we urge you to read this general information on how to get started with advertising your car on Dyler.com.
Maximising Your Ad on Dyler
PART 1 - WRITING A DESCRIPTION
After clicking Place New Ad in the top right corner of Dyler, you will need to head to the DETAILS section in the top middle of the page.
Once you are on the page, scroll to the bottom of the page to the box where it says the description.
Now we’re at one of the most important parts of creating your ad. The more information you give, the higher your chances of rehoming your car will be.
Whilst it’s absolutely crucial that you tell the truth about your car’s specifications and provide all the correct technical information, our editorial team urges you to get creative and tell a story about your car.
Below you can find an example of how a well-written description should read. If you need further assistance with this part of creating your car, please contact our Editor. His email address is george@dyler.com
Once you’ve pasted your description into the box, click publish if you’re ready to make it live and upload your photos of your car. If you want to come back to your description later, click Save as a draft.
PART 2 - PHOTOS
Equally as important as the description of your car are high-quality photos. There are a lot of ads on our site, and the majority of them are accompanied by great imagery. However, there are a few that slip through the cracks.
The following guidelines should help you make the best possible photos for your ad. Don’t worry, you don’t need a DSLR. The camera on your phone should do absolutely fine.
Before taking photos, we’d also recommend that you take a look at the bullet points below.
- Dealers and individual vendors can upload up to 30 photos in PNG, JPG or JPEG format. Each photo cannot be more than 10 MB and may be uploaded using the standard select file format, or by using drag and drop. The first photo to be uploaded will be the main photo for your ad.
- To change the main (first) photo, just switch the locations of your photos.
- The recommended size of your photos should be at least 500 pixels x 500 pixels.
- The higher-quality the photo, the more chance you will have of finding a buyer for your car. In short, ensure that all photos are well lit and do not cut any parts of your car off. Halved rooflines and shortened c-pillars are a big no-no.
If your classic car for sale is renowned for having certain issues (for example, rust) related to its bodywork, we urge you to photograph how you’ve restored your car to resolve the issue. Alternatively, if the car you are selling has any issues that need resolving, please ensure you photograph them for potential buyers.
We would also suggest that you take your photos with the following shots.

We would also urge you to open the bonnet of your car, and take some photos of the engine. This will give potential buyers an insight into the mechanical condition of your car. Please follow this link to get some further information on the sort of photos we were describing above.
As-per everything, hit Publish if you’re ready to make your ad and photos live. If you want to add more photos to your description later, click Save as a draft.
PART 3 - SELLING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
We would also suggest you to harness the power of social media to sell your classic car. There are numerous groups - owners clubs, for example - on Facebook and Reddit that specialise in specific makes and model of cars. As a way of finding a new home for your classic car, we would urge that you post your car ads on these sites. Alternatively, more generic classic car groups on social media are also useful resources you can use to sell your classic car.
